Individuals who aspire to move to the UK may often get stuck with the fundamental question related to the age limit for immigration. In this blog we will effectively debunk this topic and provide additional information about the same.

What Would Be The Age Limit For The UK Work Visa?

The age limit for the UK work visa if applying from India or any other country in the world is a minimum of 18 years. You can not work in the UK if you are younger than 18 years.

On the other hand, there is no official maximum age limit in the UK for a work visa. However, it would be difficult to get a job as you get older but there is no restriction.

Aside from age, there are many eligibility requirements that you need to clear to get a work permit. There are different types of work visas depending on the type of work you will be engaging in.

Different Types Of Work Visa And Age Limitations Related To Them

To work in the UK you need to get a work-related visa. This visa could be anyone from different types of work visas. Following are the two categories of work visas:

If you’re thinking of moving to the UK as a working individual, there are several ways to go about it.

However, the first thing we must take into consideration is whether we are planning for a skilled position or an unskilled position.

If you are thinking of applying or taking up employment that falls under the category of skilled employment, you are eligible to apply for a UK Skilled Worker Visa.

This is the main route that workers who take up skilled employment go through to get to the UK.

What is a skilled worker visa?

The skilled work visa, formerly known as the tier II work visa in the UK, is what most skilled employees have to get to work in the UK. This change occurred back in December 2020. This was a positive change in terms of a UK visa because this made it easier for foreigners to come work in the UK since many restrictions that were imposed earlier were lifted.

Am I eligible for such a UK work visa?

If you are a fresher, that is, a ‘new entrant,’ then you must have a minimum salary of £20,480 per annum. However, if you are an experienced professional, that is, you come under the rate of an ‘experienced worker,’ then you must have a minimum salary of £25,600 per annum.

What do I need to apply for this visa?

indecisive young women posing

There is indeed a list of prerequisites necessary to apply for this visa and below are some of these criteria you will need to meet for use.

  • This might be obvious, but you must have a job offer. This particular UK employer who is offering you a job must also be able to provide you with a sponsorship certificate. To do so, they must also have a valid sponsorship license.
  • All applicants must also meet the minimum English language requirements. The minimum IELTS score for a UK work visa is a CEFR level of B1.

What is the allowed length of stay?

1. As an experienced worker

Since the skilled work visa has no maximum period to its issue, professionals can apply for any period as they deem fit. Most people will apply for a five years stay at first, in the case that they are applying as experienced workers.

In most cases, professionals will apply for indefinite leave to remain in the UK post the ending of their work visa. However, since this can only be done after a five-year work period in the country, you must have applied for five years. Although if you have not and your period to stay, which was shorter than five years, is now over, you may apply for an extension as well.

Then, when you have finally completed five years of experience working in the country, you may then apply for indefinite leave to remain. For doing so, the appropriate salary rate must also be paid.

2. As a new entrant

If you are under 26 years of age or are applying under the category of new entrant, the maximum stay period is four years. Other cases where this exception might be valid include if you have a study Visa and are already in the UK, amongst others.

When these four years end, we may apply for an extension based on the points that you have collected. If you wish to apply for indefinite leave to remain in the UK as a new entrant, you will have to apply 28 days before the end of your skilled work visa. For this, you will need to have a place of residence as well as the desire to continue your employment.

What about the financial requirements?

In most cases, for a UK work visa, your sponsorship certificate should cover this aspect. Employees with a valid sponsorship license should be able to provide you with a maximum of £1270 for the first month of your stay there. However, in the case that you are transferring companies or other similar scenarios, applicants must show that they have a minimum of £1270 of funding and have had possession of them for a continuous period of 28 days, no more than 31 days before the date of your application for a skilled worker visa.

Does my family benefit from this in any way?

Young parents lie with their son on the bed

The process for your children and partners to apply for immigration for the same period as the immigrant applying for a UK job visa from India is rather simple.

The dependant must meet any of the following requirements:

  • Must be a husband, wife, civil partner or unmarried partner.
  • Children under the age of 18
  • Children over the age of 18. This is applicable when they are already in the UK as your dependent.

The documents that you will need to provide include:

  • Credit card bills
  • Bank statement
  • driving license
  • NHS registration document
  • an official letter from any concerned University

What are the salary requirements?

The employer who is providing you with a sponsorship certificate must provide minimum maintenance and meet the following points.

People migrate in large numbers to the UK in search of better job opportunities. However, many applications get rejected on a daily basis due to inadequate and incorrect information in the application forms. One must ensure that they have all the important information before applying for a UK tier 2 work visa

Applying for a visa may seem difficult, but as long as you are familiar with the process, it is actually rather simple.

To learn more about the visa application process for skilled workers, keep reading this article.

What is a skilled worker visa?

The skilled worker visa is a visa granted to non-UK residents to come and work in the UK. This visa is given to workers who have a sponsorship certificate from a valid UK employer.

It was formerly known as Tier 2 visa. The candidate for a skilled worker visa must have enough points under the UK immigration system.

Who is eligible for a skilled worker visa?

To become eligible for a skilled worker visa, you need to qualify for certain eligibility requirements. You need to earn a total of 70 points, 50 points for mandatory criteria and 20 points for tradeable criteria.

Here’s a detailed overview of the eligibility criteria –

1. Job offer with a sponsorship letter

A job offer with a sponsorship letter from a licensed UK employer will grant you 20 points. Your employer should also hold a valid Tier 2 sponsor license from UKVI. Ensure that your job is on the list of eligible occupations. You can use this sponsorship letter only once for an application. You can apply for the work visa within 3 months of the issue of your sponsorship letter.

2. Get the minimum salary

There must be a minimum wage for your position. It could be any one of the given options –

  • £25,600 annually
  • 10.10 per hour
  • The going rate

3. Financial support during your stay

The Home Office must be convinced that the applicant for a Tier 2 visa will be able to sustain themselves once they arrive in the UK. Thus the applicant can provide proof of financial sustainability by showing that either they or their UK-licensed sponsor has sufficient funds to cover their first month’s expenses.

If the provision of maintenance is not acknowledged on the sponsorship letter, the applicant must demonstrate that they have £945 in their bank account for at least 90 days prior to the application date.

4. You must have a basic understanding of English

  1. A passport that is valid for the next 6 months
  2. Past travel documents and expired passports to reflect previous travel history

  6. Documents showing the details of accommodation

  10. Accommodation details

If you are applying from outside the UK, you can apply online. However, you might have to visit the nearby visa office for verification.

How long does it take to get approval for the visa?

You will receive a notification about your uk work visa within 3 to 4 weeks of application if you are applying from outside the UK. However, if you are applying from the UK, you may have to wait for 8 weeks. Depending on your situation, the Home Office may require additional time to check your paperwork and verify your identity. Because of this, you should always give yourself extra time and submit your application on time.

On what grounds can a visa application be rejected?

Thumbs up down hands agree and disagree gesture

Your visa application can get rejected if you fail to submit a correct application form with all the necessary documents attached. Thus you should double-check your application form before submitting it. Some of the common reasons for rejection of a UK skilled worker visa are insufficient funds to support your stay in the UK and not meeting the salary requirements.

What is the application fee for a skilled worker visa?

Depending on a number of variables, the base charge for a Skilled Worker Visa application might range from £610 to £1,048. It depends on your stay, the job you are applying for, and the location from where you are applying. You will be charged less if your position is on the shortage occupation list.

A fee of £624.00 per applicant per year will be levied for the immigration health surcharge. This has to be paid in full and upfront. For instance, if you are applying for a 3-year visa with a dependent, the total cost would be £3,744.00.

You will benefit from a discounted rate on application costs and the Immigration Health Surcharge fee if you qualify for a skilled worker visa as a health and care worker.

Due to the better standard lifestyle offered by the UK, we often describe the nation as a land of abundance in terms of opportunities.

With numerous people migrating to the country, it is becoming increasingly detail-oriented for workers to migrate in search of jobs. If you wish to work in the UK, you are more likely to have heard of a skilled worker visa.

Here, we go through the significance of a skilled worker visa, who is qualified to apply for one, and how a UK visa agency may assist in the process.

What is a skilled worker visa?

If a UK-based employer wants to hire a non-UK resident and have them relocate to the country, one option is to use a skilled worker visa. In this case, the person is hired for their special skill set which may not necessarily be available within the UK.

Generally, a work permit included the tier 2 general visa. But now, the trends have shifted, and a skilled worker visa is more likely to replace a tier 2 work permit. It has evolved to become a major route for immigration workers.

Any aspiring candidate can apply for sponsored visas directly by understanding the eligibility criteria. The application process can be hectic with a lot of legalities. Get in touch with expert visa consultants near you to understand the formalities better.

What is the key requirement for a skilled worker visa?

According to the skilled worker appendix, any applicant needs to score 70 points in total to qualify for the visa application.

The points are distributed in different categories, such as:

  • Job offer from a licensed employer
  • Language skills including speaking, reading, writing, and listening
  • A genuine vacancy that can be filled only by the overseas candidate
  • The wage given should be in accordance with the government norms

All these points are calculated separately to see if a person is eligible for the visa. For an individual to check the credential of the employer and see if they have the necessary license to offer a sponsored position could be difficult.

With the help of expert consultants, you can complete such tasks with ease.

The SOC code provided information about the job offer. It can verify the role, and the job description must match the eligibility criteria. Using incorrect SOC codes may lead to visa rejections.

Hence, it is recommended that you get in touch with expert consultants to minimize the chances of rejection.

If you are wondering why people are opting for this type of visa, read below to know more!

Why are people opting for a skilled worker visa?

A skilled worker visa is so much more than just a work permit. It is proof that the vacancy you filled is irreplaceable. The employer pays you for your skills which no other resident of the country possesses.

If you are a talented person struggling to find work and earn, a skilled worker visa would solve all your problems. As one of the highest paying countries in the world, working in the UK is sure to improve your economic status.

Get a sponsored job offer from an employer looking to fill a genuine vacancy, earn according to your skills and live a better lifestyle in the UK.

You can also enjoy the benefits of healthcare in the UK, which are devised specially for immigrants. With incredible healthcare plans in the country, you can access world-class amenities without having to burn a hole in your pocket. What’s more interesting? After a specified period, according to your visa, you can apply for PR and settle in the UK for good.

How can you apply for a skilled worker visa?

There are three ways to apply for a skilled worker visa. You should adopt these strategies after fully understanding how skilled worker visas are applied. You can get help from expert consultants for this purpose.

The ways in which the visa can be applied are as follows.

1. Apply from your native country

You can seek jobs from the comfort of your home. Look online for vacancies and apply without hesitation. Filter the options and find UK-based companies with the license to offer sponsored visas or skilled worker visas. Not every company has the authority to sponsor an employee from a foreign country. Ensure that you understand the terms before applying.

2. Apply through university

Many people migrate to the UK for higher studies. But with a student visa, it is not possible to stay back in the country and work. So while studying, a full-time student can improve their connections and find enough jobs in the country. Use the weekly work hours allotted to discover part-time jobs that will help you develop your talents.

This is an excellent way to build more contacts in the country and pave the way for your skilled worker job offer. You can apply through your university for a genuine vacancy, and if hired, you will be eligible for a skilled worker visa. You can apply for it before your student visa expires so that you will not have to go back to your nation.

3. Youth Mobility Scheme

Owing to the number of people migrating to the UK, the youth mobility scheme enables more talented workers in the age group of 18 to 30 to migrate to the UK. Under the scheme, a candidate can stay back in the UK for two years and find a permanent position in a UK-based company.

Finding a position in a company with a license to provide a certificate of sponsorship can help you switch your existing visa to a skilled worker visa. In all these strategies, the final visa application would be that of a skilled worker visa.
