Swedish Work Visas issued in 2023

In March, the Swedish Migration Agency granted a total of 8,816 residence permits, with the majority of these permits being issued for employment purposes. This brings the number of work permits granted in the first quarter of 2023 to 9,290.

According to reports, 3,355 work permits were granted in March, accounting for thirty-eight percent of the overall number of residence permits issued in Sweden.

Additionally, 2,479 residence permits were granted for family reunification, while 1,748 permits were given to asylum seekers in March 2023. The agency also issued 1,878 residence permits for study purposes during that period.

Justice Ministry about job and study permits

The Swedish Ministry of Justice put forth a proposal in March 2023 regarding a fresh regulation for individuals seeking work and study permits. The proposed rule suggests that individuals falling under these two categories may be exempted from the obligation of presenting their passports to the authorities' offices.

This measure aims to alleviate the burden of extensive travel distances and aims to draw in a greater number of researchers, skilled workers, and doctoral candidates to the nation. Additionally, this new rule is expected to strengthen the scrutiny of applicants' identities.
